Hi,

I am not sure if this is me getting more used to the wave or if something has changed. But I feel that if I turn around the rotary encoders quickly it doesn't pick up the motion like it used to or it might just be me.. Is there any part that should be cleaned or serviced in the rotary encoders?

Hi there,

I can't think of any reason that the knobs should become less sensitive unless you alter the sensitivity for the parameter in either the Wave Control Mapper or the Color user prefs.

If you try and move the knobs too quickly you can get to the point when the panel can't register the rotation which has the effect of the knobs stopping working for a moment. This is possibly what you're seeing.

All I can suggest for now is that you increase the sensitivity and see if that improves things. Let me know if the problem persists.

Cheers,

Chris

Hi Chris!

I am not sure what is going on, sometimes it looks like the panel is not sure which way I am turning the dial so it kind of "stutters" a little. This is most noticeable on the jog dial but it's also on the left dial. But it's inconsistent so it might be a software problem. Sadly, this system isn't mine so I can't do any major testing on it.

I have looked at the settings for sensitivity and also adjusted the settings in color for trackball/joy sensitivity and it's working better but still sometimes it "stutters".

The panel hasn't been used that much yet, I would guess something like 330 hours or so.

Regards
Pasi

Hi Pasi,

I just wanted to confirm a couple of things:

1) Is it only the four large dials that are affected and not the nine knobs above displays?

2) Does the "stutter" happen no mater how fast or slow you move the control?

Hopefully we'll get this sorted!

Cheers,

Chris

It's just the large dials.

Yes. And it's getting more and more noticeable and nothing has changed in the setup that I am aware of.

I started to pay more attention to this.

If I start up really slowly and ind of "wake up" the dial it'll react as I expect it to, trick is to do some really small motion until it "hooks" to the motion.

Looking in systemprofiler Mac OS X reports this device as a 12 Mbit / sek device. Is this correct?

Right now I am working at a client and sitting in a room that's connected to their machine room. The USB is feed through active USB extensions to a Cinema HD display which in turn feeds the Wave panel. I'll try to run it directly to the active extension and see if this will make a difference, but it has been connected this way all the time.

This is the last show I am finishing today and I'll be off on a break for 2 weeks. Hopefully my the floor in my edit suite has been fixed (had a flooding) so I can try it on my machine at home.

Connected the panel straight to the USB extension and it feels more responsive but still sometimes it stutters.

I'm using Redcine-x software with my wave panel. Recently i've noticed the jog dials are lagging. Basically i can turn them a full turn and nothing happens. I have to turn them fast to get a response. This only happened recently and wondering if a new software build from RED could have been the culprit? I was using build 184 in past and no problems, but now the new build 247 is horrible while using the jog dials. So much so that i cannot use them and have to move manually on my keyboard the values i want. Any assistance?

Hi,

I am not sure if this is a panel or a Redcine-X problem. I don't have a copy of Redcine-X installed to check this with. Have you contacted Red or looked on the Red User group to see if anyone else is having this problem?

What you could try is plugging the panel into the USB of your computer, but do not have any software running on the computer that uses the Wave panel. In this mode you can use the Wave test mode (it comes up in test mode after being plugged in) to see if the dials are working. There is more information on the test mode in the Wave user manual.

Regards,

Chris
